Summary

Are you experiencing any early signs of pregnancy like sore breasts, fatigue, nausea, or missed period? If that is the case, then a question might arise in your mind: when would you know that you are actually pregnant? Ideally, the best time for getting a pregnancy test done is after you’ve missed your period. So let’s find out the best time of the day to take the test!

Best Time of the Day to Take a Pregnancy Test

How soon can you take a pregnancy test?

Although you may be very eager to take a pregnancy test as soon as possible, it will be best for you to wait till your period is late for at least a week so that you get the most accurate result. But if you can’t wait until your next period, let two weeks pass after sexual intercourse before going for the pregnancy test.

Check this video and see the tutorial on how to take the pregnancy test at home.

Why wait to take the pregnancy test?

It’s essential to wait because your body needs time to develop a sufficient quantity of the pregnancy hormone – Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) so that the pregnancy test can detect it.

At-home pregnancy tests are easily available, which can detect hCG levels within 10 days after the successful implantation of an egg.

Hence, if you take the test early, you may get a negative result even if you are pregnant. This may further cause a lot of anxiety and depression that can hamper your pregnancy.

What is the best time to take a pregnancy test?

If you are eager to find out how early you can take a pregnancy test, you might also want to know the best time to take a pregnancy test. Whether it is in the morning or at night? To get an accurate result in the test, most experts say that taking a pregnancy test in the morning is ideal.

The hCG hormone becomes more concentrated in your urine when you’re sleeping. So unless you wake up in the middle of the night to pee, first thing in the morning is the ideal time for detecting pregnancy.

This doesn’t mean you cannot take the test at any time of the day. It only means that you are more likely to get a false-negative test result, especially if you drink a lot of water throughout the day.

You may forget to take the test in the morning as we are all buckling up to start our day, so here is a small tip for you. Leave yourself a note at night to take the test the next day. You can even leave a sticky note on the toilet lid to remind yourself.

You may have an unconventional sleep routine and may not be able to test your urine first thing in the morning. So for this, you can increase the level of hCG in your urine by not using the bathroom for at least four hours before waking up.

Before taking a pregnancy test, don’t drink too much water, as drinking a lot of water can further dilute your urine and affect your test result.

If you get a negative result but still think of being pregnant, you can take the test again after a few more days. False negatives and false positives are rare, but they can happen. So having patience and repeating the test can be of great help to relieve your tension.

Key Takeaways/Conclusion

The wait to take a pregnancy test can make you anxious, but it’s completely understandable if you feel like taking the test as soon as possible. To make the most of it, waiting a bit longer may actually make more sense.

Do remember, the best time to take a pregnancy test is a few days after a missed period (or at least two weeks after sexual intercourse) and at the same time ensure that you haven’t peed in many hours.

Also, keep in mind that your test results may not be entirely accurate even if you take the test in the morning.

So if you’re comfortable with that, go ahead to take an early pregnancy test, and don’t forget to keep a follow-up with additional tests in the coming days or weeks. You can also get some blood tests done as recommended by your specialists to further confirm your pregnancy.
