IVF experts of the best IVF clinic in Ghaziabad – Gunjan IVF World share an easy breezy article on oligospermia.
Male infertility is on the rise globally. One of the most important aspect of male infertility is lack of awareness about the potential symptoms and causes. IVF experts of the Gunjan IVF World – the three times winner of North India’s best IVF clinic chain by ET HealthWorld share a short article about oligospermia and its causes. Read to know what they are.
What is oligospermia?
“Oligospermia is a common infertility condition where there is low sperm count in the semen. Sperm count of 15 million to 200 million sperm per 1 millilitre of semen is considered apt to impregnate a woman. In cases where there are less than 15 million sperm in 1 millitre of semen, it is usually referred to as oligospermia. It is also known as oligozoospermia. If the ejaculate has less than 5 million sperm in 1 millitre of semen, then it is a known case of severe oligospermia. This could be a possible cause of male infertility. But this does not mean, a man with severe oligospermia cannot become a father. It takes time but with advances in assisted reproductive techniques, it is possible,” mentioned Dr. Gunjan Gupta, well-known gynaecologist Ghaziabad and the Founder & Medical Director of Gunjan IVF World – the best IVF clinic in Ghaziabad. Gunjan IVF World also has three highly advanced IVF centres in Janakpuri, Noida and Meerut.
What could be the possible causes of oligospermia?
Varicocele: “When veins in the scrotum get enlarged, it leads to interference in the blood flow to the testicles. Because of this, the scrotal temperatures increase negatively impacting sperm production. 40% of low sperm count or low sperm quality cases are all a result of this condition,” mentioned Dr. Garima Sharma, Centre In-Charge and Consultant of a leading IVF clinic in Janakpuri – Gunjan IVF World.
Problems with ejaculation: Reduced sperm count could also be a result of problems in ejaculation. Retrograde ejaculation is also a possibility when semen enters the bladder instead of leaving from the tip of the penis. Ejaculatory issues could also be a result of past surgeries, tumours, injuries, etc.
Infection: Sexually transmitted infections can also contribute to reduced sperm amount in semen.
Hormonal issues: Hormones produced by the brain and testicles have a direct relation with ejaculation and sperm production. Any imbalance in the hormone levels can cause disruptions in sperm count numbers.
Obesity and weight problems: Increasing weight can lead to production of lower amount of sperm. Weight issues can come in the way of hormone production thereby leading to low sperm count.
“At Gunjan IVF World, we have a great track record of successfully treating cases of severe oligospermia,” concluded Dr. Gunjan Gupta.
