Colposcopy is used to examine the cervix (the entryway to the uterus) and the vagina. A magnifying lens and a light, known as a colposcope, are used in the procedure. It enlarges the picture by a large margin so that the cervix and vaginal walls are easier to visualize by the doctor. Your gynecology doctor may extract a tiny sample of tissue for laboratory testing in certain circumstances.
During this exam, one can see white spots. Keep reading to know about them in detail.
What do white spots on the cervix mean?
The white dots on the cervix are Nabothian cysts, which are common in women of childbearing age. Cysts packed with mucus appear as tiny pimples on the cervix’s surface. Mildly yellow to amber mucus fills these sacs, which may be as little as 2 millimetres or as large as 10 millimetres across.
Most nabothian cysts are caused by the regrowth of tissue on the cervix after delivery. Cervix glands are blocked by this new tissue, trapping mucous discharge in small pockets under the skin. The cervix of women who have had children often contains nabothian cysts. Those who are post-menopausal and have thinner cervical skin are also at risk. Chronic cervicitis, long-term infection of the cervix, may also cause nabothian cysts.
Also known as epithelial inclusion cysts, mucinous retention cysts, and nabothian follicles, nabothian cysts have a variety of names.

Does white spots on the cervix mean cancer?
Cervical cysts are not cancerous in any way. Cysts occur in women during reproductive age, and the most frequent kind is the nabothian cyst. It develops when normal tissue grows over glandular, mucus-producing tissue on the inside of the cervix. Cysts arise when mucus, fluid, or tissue get trapped in the body.
Is it normal to have spots on your cervix?
Nabothian cysts (also known as mucinous retention cysts or epithelial cysts) are typical and benign characteristics of the adult cervix and are considered normal. Cysts are common in women of childbearing age. They may be transparent or opaque, ranging from a few millimetres to a few centimetres in diameter. Inflammation and squamous metaplasia may obstruct gland orifices in the transformation zone of the cervix (where columnar and squamous cells meet).

What causes white spots on the cervix?
Nabothian cysts arise when the mucus-producing glands in your cervix get covered with skin cells and become blocked, which causes them to rupture. The skin cells clog the glands, causing mucus to build up in the body as a result. It results in the formation of a cyst on the cervix, which appears as a tiny, white lump.
Nabothian cysts may develop in certain women as a result of childbirth or physical damage to the cervix. During pregnancy and delivery, extra skin cells may develop on the mucus gland, causing mucus to get trapped and cysts to form.
Physical damage to the area surrounding the cervix may cause additional tissue to form on top of mucus glands during the healing process, causing mucus to get trapped, which can lead to the development of cysts.
Cysts generated by physical trauma are particularly prevalent during the healing period after chronic cervicitis, which is characterized by inflammation of the cervix tissue.
Can a Nabothian cyst affect pregnancy?
Nabothian cysts are most often seen in women throughout their reproductive years, after delivery, and after menopause, among other times.
Nabothian cysts, on the other hand, are more frequent among women who have just given birth. In part, this is because after giving birth, new tissue forms on the cervix, which may obstruct the nabothian glands, which are located on the surface of the cervix and cause cysts to form.
In one investigation, a huge nabothian cyst was found in a pregnant woman’s labor channel, preventing her from going into labor. Doctors were able to clear the cyst, which enabled the mother to give birth to a healthy baby.
Are cysts on the cervix common?
Nabothian cysts are a reasonably frequent kind of cyst. Cervical polyps are not harmful to the body, and they are not a symptom of cervical cancer. Naguthyian cysts arise when the mucus-producing glands in your cervix get covered with skin cells and become blocked, which causes them to rupture. The skin cells clog the glands, causing mucus to build up in the body as a result.
Conclusion
Nabothian cysts are not preventable. These growths, on the other hand, are harmless and generally modest. There are no immediate or long-term health risks associated with them. You don’t need to worry about nabothian cysts as long as they don’t interfere with your ability to lead a normal life and don’t create pain or discomfort in your cervix.
